About This Project

The West Central Tribune is a daily newspaper with a circulation of 17,500 serving the seven county area surrounding Willmar. Included in this daily paper are 26 special sections during the year. The Sunday Reminder is a weekly shopper with a circulation of 28,000. The West Central Tribune also does the printing for five other newspapers and publishes several other supplements for area events. As the only daily in the area, the West Central Tribune has 100 employees, 235 carriers and 28 drivers. The West Central Tribune has won 41 editorial and photography awards in the last four years.


Located 95 miles west of Minneapolis, Willmar is the county seat of Kandiyohi County and is noted for its two medical centers, Ridgewater community college, and retail trade area. Willmar has 31 churches, 1 parochial school, 5 elementary schools, and 2 high schools with 88% of its graduates attending post-secondary school. Willmar is host to the annual Sonshine Christian Music Festival, which draws 12,000 people from the United States and Canada. Outdoor entertainment includes Sibley State Park, seven area golf courses, and the Little Crow Water Ski team, which performs weekly on the Crow River during the summer. Manufacturing, health care, retailing, wholesaling, agricultural processing, and government services combine to make Willmar a well-rounded city with a population of 18,831.
